Webcam Posture Checker Privacy: What to Verify Before You Start
A privacy claim should explain where camera frames are processed, whether they leave the device, what derived data is saved, and how you can stop access. “Uses AI” is not enough information to make that decision.
Understand the browser permission
A website can request camera access through the browser. The browser should ask for permission and show an indicator while the camera is active. You can deny the request, stop the camera by ending the session or closing the page, and review site permissions in browser settings.
Permission only answers whether the page can receive the camera stream. It does not, by itself, tell you where frames are processed or whether data is sent to a server. The product must explain that separately.
Local processing versus cloud processing
With local processing, the posture model runs in the browser and camera frames can remain on the device. With cloud processing, some or all frames are transmitted to a remote service. Either architecture needs clear security and privacy information, but they create different data flows and risks.
Verify the exact wording. “We do not store video” could still allow live upload and immediate deletion. “Processed on your device and never uploaded” is a more specific claim. A network inspection can provide additional evidence, but users should not need developer tools to find the basic answer.
Ask what derived data is saved
A service may avoid storing video while saving derived information such as session duration, posture scores, reminder settings, break counts, or subscription status. Those summaries are different from camera frames, but they are still data and should be described in the privacy policy.
Check whether an account is required, whether data synchronizes across devices, how long it is retained, and how to request deletion. Payment providers may also process billing data under their own policies.
Use a pre-session privacy checklist
Before granting access, make sure the page is the expected secure website, the camera claim is specific, and the privacy policy names the categories of data that may be saved. During use, confirm the browser indicator appears. After ending the session, confirm the camera indicator turns off.

How SitAligned handles the camera
SitAligned performs pose detection locally in the browser. It does not upload, record, or store camera frames or body-landmark coordinates. The camera is used only while posture guidance is active and the page remains open. Optional account features can store wellbeing summaries described in the SitAligned Privacy Policy.
This design does not make a shared physical space private by itself. Position the camera so that other people, confidential screens, and sensitive materials are not unnecessarily visible, even when the software processes frames locally.

Does browser camera permission mean video is uploaded?
No. Permission lets the page access the stream, but the product's implementation determines whether processing happens locally or on a server. Read the product's specific data-flow statement.
Can a site remember camera permission?
Yes. Depending on the browser and your choice, permission may persist for that site. You can review and revoke it in browser site settings.
Does SitAligned upload my camera video?
No. SitAligned processes camera frames locally in the browser and does not upload, record, or store them.
What can SitAligned save to my account?
Optional account features may save subscription status, reminder preferences, work-duration and wellbeing summaries, and leaderboard data. They do not contain camera frames or biometric identity templates.
